Cranking

Fuel pressure was set to 30psi and attempted the first start. Took a video using the iPhone (will use different orientation next time) to show the screens on the MBE software. The oil pressure fault shows up, the sensor is not reading an oil pressure until the engine cranks.

Bad crank tooth pattern also displays, which was a bit of a red herring. I persisted with it and noticed that the engine tries to fire and then stops. I nearly ended up removing the engine to check the type and operation of crank sensor which should be a 24-1.

After some head scratching, I eventually turned over the engine whilst opening the throttle and the engine fired, the issue was that the idle screw was set too low and was not getting enough air to fire. At least the engine did not need to come out.

Rear Lights #1

Took a short cut with the rear lights and called Leon for his dimensions. It's good to share info at times!! Sure he won't mind.

Decided to change the height of the rear indicators to match the profile of the bottom of the arch. Used 140mm for both indicators to give a light angle in position.

As an aside, I now always use duct tape for marking as it's much easier to remove than masking tape.

Front Arches #1

Fitted the front arches, after much debate I decided to mount the arches with M6 bolts and rig nuts. The other option is to tiger seal them in it place on aluminium brackets. As the wheels are quite tightly covered by the arches to keep heat in the tyres on track I went with the visible bolt option for ease of removal in the future.

Marked and drilled the arch, then marked the fixings and fitted riv nuts. Fixed the arched with chromed m6 pan head bolts, will need to trim the front edge with an angled cut at a later date.

Centre Tunnel

Fitted the centre gunner and cut out a slot for the handbrake, just need to get a handbrake gaiter and a better handle. Also cut a slot for the reversing gear, will make a cover at a later date.

Fuel Leaks

Ran the fuel pumps and found that the FPR800 pressure regulator leaked quite badly around the 1/8NPT connections. Initially I tightened the fittings but this made no difference.

Bought some Loctite 577 thread sealant and re fitted the 1/8NPT connections. Will test after 24 hours.

Oil System #2

The breather plate finally has arrived from SBD so now I can finish putting the oil system together. All main oil hoses associated with the dry sump, cooler and the oil storage tank are all installed in AN12 and the breather system is in AN10.

Made up and installed the remaining hose to the oil cooler from storage tank. Fitted the catch tank and made up hoses.

Filled the oil tank with Silkolene Pro 4 Race 15W-50 as recommended by RPE. Filled the tank to cover the top baffle.

Finally I cranked the engine without the injectors or fuel pumps connected, the oil pressure eventually showed a reading of 15psi on the dash. Topped up the oil level again above the baffle, oil used was around 7 litres.
