Seat Fitting

Set out to fit the seats, decided to mount them in a fixed position and not to use the runners provided, the main reason was that I wanted to have the seats as low as possible and also the to have the same height for both.

For fixings, I bought some rubber anti vibration mounts from eBay which seem to be ideal. I made a template from the underside of the seat to provide accurate hole spacing. In positioning the seat, what became apparent was that there is a chassis rail that fouls where I planned to mount the seat. I drilled a hole alongside and then modified one of the mounts to fit. Drilled a full set of holes at 12mm and then bolted the seat in place.

  1. Dunno about IVA and such, but race tech inspectors have failed such mounts for shearing in high-impact crashes. Any thoughts on that?

    1. Good point. IVA was fine, however have now removed them and replaced with Tillett seats and runners bolted to the chassis rails.

  2. Glad to know. I set my driver's seat into the car for the first time and find that although I'm just under 6 feet tall, I have to pull the seat as far forward as possible to reach the pedals properly. With my no-name seats, that means the seat base contacts the bottom of the roll cage. Is 6 ft really that short? Granted, I am by no means lanky. I measured 20 cm from the seatback to the rear cross bar where the shoulder harness straps attach. All the pix I find are of taller people than me, I guess...

    1. My chassis is slightly different, I had my driver footwell shortened by 6 inches to allow a full size pedal box to be fitted. Really didn't like the standard MNR pedals and wanted to get a OBP race setup.
