Finished off fitting the engine, filled and bled the clutch. Checked that the plates disengaged and engaged as the pedal is pushed, adjusted the pedal travel to make sure all is good. I am running with a clutch master cylinder of .625 which seems ok. Fitted a new clutch cover gasket and fixed the cover in place.
Made up a new hose to go from the fuel rail return to the pressure regulator. Fitted the throttle bodies and connected the throttle cable and fuel. Adjusted the throttle cable as required.
Filled the engine with Millers running in oil as recommended by Karl at Extreme Engines, used 6 litres and filled the tank to the level to 10mm or so below the top baffle.
Removed the connections to the fuel, spark plugs and removed the fuse to the fuel pumps. Turned over the engine until the oil pressure sensor read. Oil pressure did not read until I removed the sensor and turned over the engine until oil came out of the hose. I then re connected and turned over again, this time it read up to 15 psi.
Next connected the fuel and checked for leaks. Re attached the connectors and started the engine. The engine started fine but sounded very rough, with a heavy cam noise and rattling from the bores. After a while the cam noise quietened down a little. I let the engine warm up and get to temperature, then shut off and checked for leaks, had a small leak on the coolant and tightened down the hose. Noticed that the exhaust started to burn off the polish from the pipes, this will clear after a couple of cycles.
The exhaust appears to be blowing that needs fixing. Will tidy up the rest of the install and then look at running in next.
