When I bought the turbo engine, I discussed the engine and the spec with Damian at Daytuner who originally built the engine. He told me that it was a low mileage engine that he fully refreshed and is essentially in brand new condition and never run. However, Damian recommended that I remove the head to make sure that everything was clean and as it should be as the engine had stood in a workshop for a couple of years.
I also wanted to remove the engine casings to send them off to be powder coated in RAL 2004 orange to match my car and similar to the RPE engine.
First job was to remove the cam cover and to take plenty of photos. I set the engine to TDC and took photos of the cam sprocket positioning as a record for when I re assemble the engine.
The engine has previously been sprayed silver and unfortunately there is a lot of overspray on the engine internals which I'll try to clean off as much as I can. My preference is clean shot blasted aluminium, but the paint looks ok for now.
